Donor Policy
Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the non-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, the Somerset County United Way endorses, subscribes to, and will act at all times in concert with the following rights of donors and prospective donors:

1. To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.
3. To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements.
4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition or to remain anonymous if desired.
6. To be assured that information about their donations is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.
9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists upon their request.
10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

We also collect information on the dates and times you visit our site using standard tracking software. No other information is collected.

Outside Information Collected About You:
No supplement information is obtained from any third parties (such as direct marketers) and used in conjunction with personal, demographic, or other information that is collected.

We Do No Use Cookies:
A cookie is a text file saved to your computer’s hard drive. The text file contains small pieces of data sent by a Web server and stored on your computer when you visit certain Web Sites. Your browser can “read” this information when you visit the site again. A cookie cannot access your computer files or hard drive. We do not use Cookies on this Web Site.

Protection of Information Being Transmitted:
All information collected by Somerset County United Way, such as name, address and credit card (if making an online donation), is securely stored. We take many measures to protect the confidentiality and security of your information while it is stored, including:


• Utilizing firewalls to prevent unauthorized access to the stored information.
• Housing internal computer systems in a highly secure building to provide additional protection against unauthorized access and changes to stored information.
• Restricting access to stored information to only those employees who are involved in processing transactions or at your request.

Site Certification:
We use an SSL (Secure Socket Layer) enabling 128-256 bit encryption. This SSL will connect at the strongest encryption level available. This also includes users that still use browsers and operating systems that will not connect at the strongest encryption level. The highest encryption comes from the SGC-enabled certificate on the server. The SSL is compatible with virtually every browser in use today.
