What: United Way’s annual Public Officials Forum brings key federal, state, and local elected and appointed leaders together with business leaders from many of New Jersey’s most respected corporations. Each year, the Forum presents a program designed to build awareness about a significant community issue. Attendees are encouraged to become engaged in the efforts to create long-lasting solutions addressing the issue in their own communities.
This year’s topic, Communities Concerned for At-Risk Families, will highlight the challenges facing nearly 25 percent of residents in seven counties in northern New Jersey who, while employed, work in low-wage jobs and have limited or no savings; they live each day one crisis away from critical financial instability. The program will explore ways government, corporate, and non-profit entities can collaborate to ensure those individuals and families at serious risk of sliding down the economic scale into poverty can remain financially stable.
