Somerset County United Way Announces Party in the Park

Bridgewater, N.J. — Somerset County United Way will be hosting its annual Party in the Park on Sunday June 27, 2010 from 5-8:30pm at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater, NJ.  The event is co-sponsored by the Somerset County Park Commission and coincides with the opening of the 2010 Summer Concert Series.  This year’s opening concert, beginning at 7 pm, is Bobbie and The Jets, featuring Bobby Lynch singing Elton John’s #1 hits.  He is not only a stellar piano player, but also has the unmistakable look and sound of the incredible Elton John.

The event features activities such as a free Zumba class, a reading tent for children, free blood pressure screenings, healthy snack preparation for children, therapeutic chair massages and much more.  Attendees are encouraged to participate in volunteer projects which include making bracelets for U.S. troops, cheer cards for seniors and story-time bookmarks for our READy to Learn book distribution.  Volunteers may also take part in a hike to cleanup a park trail along the banks of the Raritan River led by the Somerset County Park Commission.

In the spirit of the event, people are encouraged to participate by bringing new school supply items to kick-off our Somerset County United Way 2010 Stuff the Bus program.  These items will help to provide children from low-income families with the supplies they need to be prepared for academic success in the upcoming school year.

Free popcorn for everyone and free spin-art for children will be available until the concert begins at 7 pm.  BBQ picnic meals will be available for purchase at the Gourmet Events Catering tent.
