Somerset County United Way and Borders Books
Complete Successful Book Drive
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset County United Way and Borders Books in Bridgewater recently completed another successful book drive that resulted in 2,380 new books targeted for early readers with a total value of approximately $16,030. The effort was part of Border’s participation in Somerset County United Way’s “READy to Learn” Program.
"We were excited to have the opportunity to partner once again with Borders for this book drive and want to express our appreciation to Borders’ staff and customers who contributed to this effort,” said Philip A. Brown, III, President of Somerset County United Way.
The “READy to Learn” Program is part of the Somerset County United Way’s commitment to advancing the common good and transforming lives through a focus on education, income and health. Increasing youth literacy is a way to improve lives within our community.
“In addition to sharing the books with our local youth-serving non-profit community impact partners, books were also distributed directly to families who qualified for Somerset County United Way’s holiday gift program,” said Irene Natale, coordinator of the Gifts of the Season Holiday drive. “Children and their parents loved the opportunity to pick out their favorite books and we encouraged them to take as many as they liked.”
The book drive ran from November 14th through December 24th when Borders’ customers had the opportunity to purchase books to donate to Somerset County United Way. Congratulations to Ashley Middlebrook, a Borders employee, for collecting the most books.
"This book drive was a great opportunity for Border's customers to give back to their community,” said
Chris Croson, General Manager for Borders Books in Bridgewater. “Customers were particularly happy that the books were going to their local United Way. They recognize that we share the same goals of community service and helping people."
