AT&T Supports United Way's "READy to Learn" Initiative
Somerset County, NJ- The AT&T Pioneers’ Chapter 139, Liberty Garden Club, made possible via a generous grant from the publisher, Simon and Schuster, donated over 6,000 new books targeted for early readers. The effort was part of AT&T’s participation in Somerset County United Way's READy to Learn” Program.
“We are very happy to have companies such as AT&T supporting our efforts to promote youth literacy within our community,” said Philip A. Brown, III, President of Somerset County United Way. “We greatly appreciate their generous donation of new books in addition to their year round support of our other initiatives.”
The “READy to Learn” Program is part of the Somerset County United Way’s commitment to advancing the common good and transforming lives through a focus on education, income and health. In addition to sharing books with local youth-serving non-profit community impact partners, books were also distributed directly to families who qualified for Somerset County United Way’s holiday gift program.
"It is a great privilege to be able to share the gift of reading with the children of our communities,” said Michael Klem, Director Systems Integration. “The AT&T Pioneers are thrilled to have been able to participate in this worthwhile program with the Somerset County United Way. It took a team of a dozen dedicated AT&T Pioneers’ and their families nearly 140 hours to process and prepare the books for distribution. I too would like to thank all these volunteers that participated in the project for their hard work and their dedication to the community."
