  Planned Giving

What is Planned Giving?

A "planned gift" is a charitable contribution that is incorporated into your financial, tax, or estate plan. Through planned giving, you contribute to Somerset County United Way while at the same time receiving financial benefits such as tax savings and increased income.

How Planned Giving benefits you?

The benefits of planned giving include:

•Reduction or elimination of your capital gains tax on appreciated assets such as securities

•Increased income for you or a person you designate as a beneficiary

•Reduction of your income tax through the charitable income tax deduction

•Decreased tax liability associated with the transfer of assets to your beneficiaries at your death

•Gaining membership in Somerset County United Way`s Legacy Society and joining the faithful contributors who make a difference today and leave a legacy for tomorrow

Ways to Give

•Make a bequest in your will

    •Donate a life insurance policy

    •Give through your retirement plan

•Donate real estate or personal property

•Contribute appreciated securities (stock, bonds, mutual fund shares etc.)

•Give through a pooled income fund or donor advised fund, a charitable annuity or a charitable trust

By providing for the future through planned giving, you make it possible for Somerset County United Way to improve lives, strengthen our community, and create a brighter future for us all!

The Legacy Society - Honoring Those Who Care

Membership in the Legacy Society is open to individuals, families and estates that have remembered Somerset County United Way in their wills through bequests or estate plans.

The Legacy Society honors people who want to continue their legacy of caring into the future. Monies donated will be used to support United Way`s mission of building a stronger and healthier community for the people of Somerset County.

Memorial Gifts

Making a gift in memory of your loved one is another valuable way to benefit our community for generations to come. Even at the most sorrowful times in our own lives, making a memorial gift can greatly impact the lives of others.

Simply by stating "in lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to Somerset County United Way," you choose to make a lasting tribute to your family member or friend. Memorial gifts are a way for us to honor our loved ones and bring hope in a time of sorrow.

A Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, Somerset County United Way honors the Donor Bill of Rights.
